Membership Invitation 2014

We are pleased to invite you to re-subscribe to membership in the Caribbean Archives Association (CARBICA) for 2014. Your membership will enable you to join us in all the activities and programmes that are sponsored by the Association. In the past several years, many of you have taken advantage of our training and information initiatives, funded largely through memberships, collaboration with regional archives and with grants from the International Council on Archives, our parent organisation.

Of particular note is the well-supported MIGAN (Memory of the Islands) web portal project that has provided up to date professional knowledge in digitization and descriptive standards over the past three years. In June CARBICA joined the Section on University Archives (ICA-SUV) at their conference in Barbados and assisted a new member from the Belize Archives to attend both the pre-Conference Workshop and the Conference itself. Several members of the Executive Committee joined forces in July and August to rescue an endangered archive in Trinidad. Our President represented CARBICA at the ICA-sponsored records management training in Haiti and at the ICA’s 2013 Annual Meeting in Brussels.

Much has been accomplished during the past year and 2014 promises to be just as busy. In February the Surinam National Archives will host a digital imaging workshop and later in the year there will be another workshop on website development, both offered through the MIGAN initiative. Toward the end of the year, a General Meeting in Martinique will be staged to elect a new Executive Committee. Following on from the programme at the ICA meeting in Brussels, speakers will be invited who will address the topic of ‘Access to Archives’. Remember that these events are only open to fully subscribed members of CARBICA, so we encourage you to renew your membership early. Please click here to renew your membership now.
