CARBICA Archives At Risk

Recognising that relatively undeveloped archival programmes in the region partially stem from a lack of understanding among senior public officials of the role that archives and records play in government administrations, sessions will be offered on advocacy and legislation as well as programme development for records and archives management.

We also recognise that the region is subject to tropical climate risks and that we as small island nations struggle to recover from natural disasters, both small and catastrophic. As a result, the Caribbean’s documentary heritage is severely compromised and has been the object of at least twelve projects stemming from the British Library’s Endangered Archives Programme. Therefore, the proposed sessions will highlight disaster mitigation and will offer practical solutions to buildings management in low-resource tropical environments.

We invite you to come and be part of this important conversation so as to strengthen our resolve to achieve regional solutions to our shared challenges.
